Marriage at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church

The Sacrament of Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, established by God and elevated by Christ to a sign of His love for the Church. At Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, we are honored to help couples prepare to enter into this holy union through the grace of the Church.

Couples who wish to celebrate their marriage at our parish must either be registered parishioners or, if from another parish, provide a letter of permission from their home parish. The preparation process ensures that the couple understands the commitment they are making and is spiritually ready to receive this sacrament.

Required Documents

All required documents must be submitted at the first appointment with the priest. A wedding date will not be scheduled until all paperwork is received.

  • A recently issued baptism certificate for both parties (must be dated within the last 6 months; original certificates from the time of baptism are not accepted)

  • Proof of First Communion and Confirmation for both parties

  • If already married civilly, a copy of the civil marriage certificate must be provided

  • If previously married and divorced, divorce papers are required

  • If not yet married civilly, a civil marriage license must be obtained at least one month before the church wedding from:

Donation and Deposit

  • A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve the wedding Mass

  • The total donation is $500, to be paid one month before the wedding

Sponsors and Attire Guidelines

  • Wedding sponsors must be a Catholic couple married in the Roman Catholic Church, with proof via their marriage certificate

  • Sponsors should prepare spiritually by going to confession before the wedding (Saturdays at 3:00 p.m.)

  • Attire for women: Dresses must not be low-cut or have uncovered shoulders. If shoulders are exposed, a shawl must be worn. Dresses with high slits are not permitted.

Rehearsal

The rehearsal date will be given one week before the wedding. Please keep your contact information updated with the parish office.

Music

Couples are responsible for arranging their own choir or music group for the ceremony.

Decoration Guidelines

To preserve the sacredness and cleanliness of the church:

  • Throwing rice, flower petals, or balloons is not allowed inside or outside the church

  • All bows and decorations must be removed immediately after the Mass

  • Use of tape, thumbtacks, or nails to attach decorations to pews is strictly prohibited

Photography & Videography

Please inform your photographer and videographer of the following rules:

  • They may remain at the sides or back of the church, and only approach the altar when permitted

  • If permitted to approach the altar, they must do so quickly and return to their place

  • No photos or video are allowed during the biblical readings or the consecration

Matrimonio en la Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

El Sacramento del Matrimonio es una alianza sagrada entre un hombre y una mujer, establecida por Dios y elevada por Cristo como signo de Su amor por la Iglesia. En la Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, nos sentimos honrados de acompañar a las parejas que se preparan para vivir esta vocación santa mediante la gracia de la Iglesia.

Las parejas que deseen celebrar su matrimonio en nuestra parroquia deben estar registradas como feligreses, o bien presentar una carta de permiso de su parroquia de origen si pertenecen a otra comunidad. El proceso de preparación asegura que los novios comprendan el compromiso que están asumiendo y estén espiritualmente preparados para recibir este sacramento.

Documentos Requeridos

Todos los documentos deben entregarse en la primera cita con el sacerdote. No se dará fecha para la boda hasta que se haya entregado toda la documentación.

  • Acta de bautismo reciente de ambos contrayentes (de no más de 6 meses; no se aceptan las actas originales emitidas en el momento del bautismo)

  • Constancia de Primera Comunión y Confirmación de ambos contrayentes

  • Si ya están casados por lo civil, copia del acta de matrimonio civil

  • Si alguno fue previamente casado y divorciado, deben presentar los papeles de divorcio

  • Si aún no están casados civilmente, deben obtener una licencia de matrimonio civil al menos un mes antes de la boda religiosa en:

Donación y Depósito

  • Se requiere un depósito no reembolsable de $150 para reservar la Misa

  • La donación total es de $500, y debe ser pagada un mes antes de la boda

Padrinos y Código de Vestimenta

  • Los padrinos de boda deben ser una pareja católica casada por la Iglesia, y presentar su acta de matrimonio

  • Los padrinos deben prepararse espiritualmente y confesarse antes de la boda (confesiones los sábados a las 3:00 p.m.)

  • Vestimenta para mujeres: No se permiten vestidos escotados ni con los hombros descubiertos. Si los hombros están expuestos, se debe usar un chal. Tampoco se permiten vestidos con aberturas muy altas.

Ensayo

La fecha del ensayo se entrega una semana antes de la boda. Por favor, mantenga su número telefónico actualizado con la oficina parroquial.

Música

La pareja es responsable de buscar su propio coro o grupo musical para la ceremonia.

Decoración

Para preservar el ambiente sagrado de la iglesia:

  • No se permite lanzar arroz, pétalos de flores o globos dentro ni fuera del templo

  • Todos los moños y decoraciones deben retirarse inmediatamente después de la Misa

  • Está prohibido usar cinta adhesiva, tachuelas o clavos para sujetar decoraciones en las bancas

Fotografía y Video

Por favor, informe a su fotógrafo y videógrafo sobre las siguientes reglas:

  • Deben permanecer en los costados o en la parte trasera de la iglesia, y solo acercarse al altar si se les permite

  • Si se les permite acercarse al altar, deben hacerlo de forma rápida y respetuosa, y regresar a su lugar

  • No está permitido tomar fotos ni grabar video durante las lecturas bíblicas ni en el momento de la consagración
